Dreamscape Continued...

As I turned to walk back to the center of the park I heard the familiar voice of Dalton, our best musician. He was working with his sister Mepps, trying to teach her the right notes for the songs they would play later. As I listened to the conversation my mind wandered back a few turns when Jalar and Noss, the sibling’s parents, were still alive. They were the most magnificent musicians on the planet. When they played in perfect harmony, they would let the dreams that created the music be seen by all who listened. The combination of the melody and the clear imagery in our heads made their concerts, something to be cherished. The accident that took their lives also took music from Ryzald. The other musicians would not play in the place of the dead masters and no one else had the talent to play, except Dalton. His parents had been training him and they even had him join them in a few concerts but when they died there was no one left to teach him. It was with a lot of shame that he would go deep in the woods and play the songs he felt welling up in his heart. Father touched his thoughts one day and let him know that his parents would want for him to play; he even placed a dream in his mind of his father encouraging him to continue and to bring music back to Ryzald. Mepps wanted to play also, but lacked the natural talent to play even the simplest tunes. During there practice sessions Dalton would get so angry at her because she couldn’t play anything, but during their performances she would play so beautifully that the crowds often cried as their heart-strings were being pulled. Dalton accused his little sister of being too dependent on the audience and that she should feel the music all the time not only when others were listening. She agreed and didn’t understand what the problem was. Father and I were the only ones who knew the secret. Father creates an illusion of beautiful music when she plays for others. In reality she has no talent but to the ears of her listeners she is impressive indeed. This concert for Kiya would be one of her best; I knew this because father was very happy to have his younger daughter coming for the day.
The rest of the preparations were just about finished when I saw a florescent blue butterfly appear in my path. I knew this to be my father’s way of bringing me to him. From the time we were small he had always done this the same way; blue for me orange for Kiya and green for Daqu. I followed the butterfly to the bakery area and my mouth watered as the smells of the sweet treats filled my nose. Father wanted for me to taste his new creation, a sweet pie with a crunchy outer crust, it was heavenly. Cooking was a new hobby for father and he had a tremendous gift for combining tastes and textures in just the right balance to make your taste buds sing. He hugged me tight and got batter all over me in the process, but his high spirits were contagious so I didn’t mind. We stepped outside and took a look around before returning to the castle to get ready for Kiya’s arrival.
I was almost finished putting flowers in my hair when I thought of the many times I had sat here while Kiya combed my hair and made the matching crowns of flowers she loved for us to wear. She and Daqu had been such a blessing to father and me. I had been an only child and my father had so much love to give it would have been overwhelming for only one small girl too absorb. I was always happy to have a little brother and sister and to have someone to share his love with. Besides, Kiya and Daqu didn’t have parents, not the kinds that count anyway. I was brought back to reality when a ball of lightening came through the window of my chamber and flashed around the room. I knew it was Kiya’s way of telling me she was on her way. I met father in the hallway as he too was rushing to get to the park in time to meet her transport. When we arrived the whole area was a buzz with the excitement of the party and fun that everyone anticipated. Father asked if he looked all right, a false humility on his part, for he knew himself to be exceptionally good-looking, and his clothing was always arranged just right; but I kissed his nose and assured him he looked just fine.
We enjoyed the party immensely and the Whimlings even persuaded most of the party to go down to the lake for a ride down their silly slide. Father had to chuckle as he caught sight of the rickety slide but controlled himself so the Whimlings wouldn’t have hurt feelings. Kiya and I climbed the slide together and slid down; we made a huge splash at the bottom, which made the Whimlings very happy. Father took his turn and we all laughed when Kiya manipulated the water molecules so that when he hit the bottom he went skipping across the lake. Father mentally coxed Kreeg and some of the other Trovelians to try the slide. They didn’t want to, but father insisted. As they climbed up the unsteady steps we could feel the tension in the Trovelians grow. They tend to be a very cautious race anyway, and this silly slide was pushing the outer limits of safety and decorum. I was shocked when Kreeg took his turn and let out a whoop of joy. I had no idea the Trovelians even had such a sound in them. After that it became hard to get a turn on the slide so it was decided that the Whimlings and Trovelians would work together to make more slides that would be safe, beautiful, and of course fun.
As the day started to turn to night Kiya asked father and I to step to the side for a private conversation about her other reason for coming to see us today. Ryzald and our sister planet of Zhetascha had made a trading station on the moon our two planets share and it seemed Daqu had been very busy causing trouble there. He had made an ice storm so severe that no ships could land or take off. Only the smaller ships have the capability to travel all the way between planets without stopping on the moon to refuel; so there were several transport ships and barges being held in artificial orbit around the moon until the trade station could be opened again. Kiya needed the help of the hard working Trovelians as well as the hot natured Whimlings to go and help her clear the landing platforms so she could get on the surface of the moon and have the proper standing to thaw the whole area out. Kiya was more powerful then Daqu but he had a huge head start and his powers were strong enough that she didn’t want to face him alone. She asked for the helpers to be sent with the supplies needed for them to be gone for several days, as well as a generous amount of the berries that keep the Whimlings happy.

More to come soon....check back Monday January 4th for the next piece.
